Getting Too Attached to Your Toothbrush
Have you had your toothbrush for over four months? You may not realize this, but your toothbrush should be replaced every three to four months. Do not wait to get a new toothbrush until you come in for your routine cleaning appointment. If your toothbrush’s bristles begin to fray or become broken, it’s a sign that the time has come to replace your toothbrush.
Brushing Too Quickly
Did you know that you should brush your teeth for a full two minutes twice a day? Did you also know that the average person only brushes for about 45 seconds? Try listening to a two-minute song or setting a timer while brushing your teeth.
Brushing Too Soon After Meals
While brushing after meals is a great habit, try to wait at least 30 minutes. This is especially important if you had something acidic, like soda or lemons. If you would like to freshen your breath in the meantime, drink water or chew sugarless gum.
Improper Toothbrush Storage
Keeping your toothbrush in a closed container like a drawer, cupboard or travel toothbrush holder isn’t ideal. Let your toothbrush dry in the open air in an upright position so that germs can’t grow as easily.
Choosing a Toothbrush With Hard Bristles
Brushing your teeth with a hard-bristled toothbrush can damage the tooth enamel. We suggest that you brush your teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
